Bridesmaid ripped for ruining BFF’s wedding out of jealousy

She was like rain on her friend’s wedding day.

A woman is being labeled “selfish” and “toxic” online after “ruining” her friend’s wedding during her maid of honor speech because she believed that her relationship had destroyed their friendship.

Apparently, hell hath no fury like a bridesmaid scorned.

The allegedly jilted bestie detailed her purported act of marital sabotage in the ever popular “Am I The A–hole” (AITA) thread circulating Reddit.

“That day was the day that my hopes of things returning back to what they used to be were gone,” the unnamed poster wrote regarding the incident, which occurred during the knot-tying ceremony on Saturday.

According to the inflammatory thread, the couple had “been together for 7 years” and she’d “known him pretty well through” through her relationship with best friend.

The BFF even claimed that “her husband is very lovely and he takes care of her.”

Unfortunately, as the happy couple grew closer, the gal pals drifted apart, per the thread.

“Yeah a lot of you will say this is natural and priorities change and I agree,” the Redditor described. “I agree that things can not always be the same and how her priority now is her husband and the family she’ll create with him. But still. I feel completely mad about it.”

The floodgates finally opened during her bestie’s nuptials, when the poster, who was the maid of honor, sobbed through the entire ceremony.

She explained that she wasn’t crying out of happiness but rather because she “mourned” their companionship, adding that she felt the wedding was also the funeral for their friendship.

“Everyone thought it was cute and how touched and happy I was but I was not,” she said. “But I couldn’t say it out loud.”

That’s when she decided to rain on her friend’s parade by freestyling a bridge-burning maid of honor speech worthy of the 2011 romantic comedy “Bridesmaids.”

“I had a MOH speech ready but all of it was just a lie so I decided to scrap my actual MOH speech and speak honestly,” the Redditor recalled. “I said that I don’t want to lie, I want to be honest but I’m not happy.”

She continued, “I’m not happy that this person she married is the reason our friendship changed. I’m not happy on this day. I just pretended the whole day out of her sake but it would be a shame of me to get up there and lie about how happy and excited I am.”

She added that despite her heartbreak she had to “suck it up and congratulate the happy couple.”

The poster’s scorched earth speech sucked the air out of the joyous occasion, causing “an awkward silence for two to three minutes” after her tirade concluded, per the thread.

“Many guests gave me judgy looks,” she described. “My best friend was whispering something with her new husband. The entire night my bff ignored me. I asked to speak to her and she angrily told me how it’s not the right time.”

The Redditor’s bestie ignored her texts and calls for two days until finally confronting her about her matrimonial soapbox session.

According to the post, the betrothed woman asked the poster if her goal was to “ruin the mood” of the wedding, which the Redditor denied, explaining that her “purpose was to be honest.”

“The entire time of the ceremony I was sobbing,” the Redditor recalled. “Not because I felt touched. But because I mourned our friendship.”

However, the bestie allegedly wasn’t satisfied.

“She said I’m trying to play the victim and how she can’t believe I haven’t even shown a bit of remorse about what I said,” the Redditor lamented. “I said I can’t apologize for being honest. She said many people believe I’m TA (the a–hole) including her. Her husband now feels uncomfortable about me.”

Despite the outrage, the would-be bridesmaid-zilla believes she’s in the right as she’s “completely mad about” the marriage.

“I know I should respect her and move on with my life but I have to also make peace with the fact that this change does not make me feel well,” she declared.

Her post didn’t exactly resonate with the Redditariat, who accused her of being self-center and toxic.

“I’m so embarrassed for OP,” declared one critic. “What a selfish a–hole.”

Another wrote, “Wow, narcissistic much? Sheesh. I hope the bride never speaks to OOP again. Serves her right.”

“OOP wasn’t honest. She was petty. Bride should step away from the OOP unnecessary drama,” criticized a third.

“You’re the AH. You made a joyous occasion about you,” declared one commenter. “Your honesty would have been better served by declining the MOH role and wishing them the best. Toxic AF. Just being honest here!”

However, others believed that the post was “fake” and that the original poster was just trolling Reddit for attention.

Still, some skeptics believed that her meltdown had another catalyst that went beyond mere sororal jealousy.

“I think OP was crushing on the bride,” theorized one armchair relationship expert. “Her behavior is that of a jilted lover, not a ‘bff.’”

This isn’t the first time a wedding guest has sabotaged the ceremony with a speech.

In 2022, an Illinois bride divorced her husband to marry her lifelong friend and the best man, Bryant, after he confessed his undying love for her during his wedding toast to his then-best friend.
